Today, on 11th September 2023, we, the members of Alipurduar Nilkanta Mukherjee Welfare Society, along with the teachers and students of McWilliam Higher Secondary School, Alipurduar, have celebrated the birth anniversary of Sri Nilkanta Mukherjee, a remarkable figure who holds a special place in our hearts. He was not only one of the founding members but also served as the Headmaster of our beloved McWilliam Higher Secondary School.
He was born on this day in 1909, and today, we gathered to pay our heartfelt respects to his memory by offering flowers at the statue erected in his honor on the school premises. Mr. Sudhangshu Biswas, the present headmaster of McWilliam Higher Secondary School, shared inspiring insights into Nilkanta Mukherjee's invaluable contributions to the students.
It is important to note that Sri Nilkanta Mukherjee was not just a founding father of the school but also the founder and acted as a professor at Alipurduar College. His dedication and vision played a pivotal role in advancing higher education in the Dooars region, which was once considered a backward area in West Bengal.
We take immense pride in being associated with his legacy through our society, which bears his name as a tribute to this visionary educationist.
